    School me on the Garmins

I am looking to replace my Lowrance Carbon 12 and would like to get a Garmin with 12” screen and run livescope. This will be mounted st the bow on the TM. Which unit would suit me needs best. Won’t be networking multiple units together, just wanting to get into the livescope world. Thanks for the info.

Well, how much $$ you want to spend????

There are the 12" GPS map series units, you have touch screen and non touch screen then you have a new Echomap Ultra series that comes in 12" unit......GPSmap series are top of the line unit and the new Ultra is middle of the pack but they both run Livescope.

Links below show prices but also can vary depending what mapping option you get and if you get transducer or not.

The new Ultra series has not been released yet.

I won’t be using the mapping other than marking waypoints. I am not really needing top of the line mapping. What are the differences between the Ultra and the 94series?

For mapping you either get HD or world mapping.....if not worried about mapping, then world mapping would be what you want....

94 Series??? Are you referring to the Echomap plus unit??? If so, that is a 9" unit....

There are a lot of differences; you have to look at the specs on both and compare.....i'll say that the Ultras dont have all the options that the GPSmap series have....

Was told by the rep at the outdoor show last week that if I didn’t want to put Radar and all that Jazz on the unit to go with the Ultra. It’s a touch unit as well. I was looking for the same thing as you describe, a stand alone unit for LiveScope.

Some differences are- The 8612 measures 11.5" diagonal, The 12" ultra measures 12" diagonal. The 8612 has an IPS antiglare screen, The 12" Ultra has a WXGA screen. The 8612 has 1920 x 1080 pixels, the 12" Ultra has 1280 x 800 pixels. The 8612 is $1500.00 more.

I would also add if you want an option to mirror your screen to an ipad or phone then the gpsmap series offers this via garmin helm. The echomap series can't do this. Could come in handy if you already have an ipad and want/need someone in the back of the boat to see what you see on livescope. Not useful for me, but just so you have all the information to make an educated decision. I am trying to make the same decisions as you right now!

The 86xx series has the best screen right now. You just pay for it as usual.

Could someone tell me what the difference is in the 122sv Ultra and the 126sv Ultra? Is it just the World Basemap vs. Bluechart maps?
