Well....part of the allure to a Cat is the speed. I get that BCB has to play CYA to an extent, but you take a chance to some degree every time you set foot on a boat.

If it's your time...its your time....motor height be danged.

I'm Ok with being a little bit behind if I get there safely.

20+ years of law enforcement, I've seen what happens to people who like to live right on the very edge. It does not take much to fall off.

Edited to add that I'm not saying that in response to this specific incident.

My jag runs like crap with motor low. 1”-1 1/2” above pad is the sweet spot!

That's not possible. It will blow out non-stop. Even 1 ½" below the pad is a very high motor position. 1.5" above the pad is high for a bullet/allison/stroker

Certainly makes a difference. I assumed traditional lower unit. At +1.5" LOTS of interesting things can happen, and happen quite quickly. From experience with an Allison XR.

The factory tries to set them at a standard setting, though they do not recommend a height as there is no one height. They like 23 3/4” to start with.

Yes, and they don’t suggest over 24 1/4” on most. Some rigs do run higher and most won’t.

They are referring to the usual mounting bracket top (top of transom) to pad measurement, rather than prop to pad measurement. :)
