Just put some readers on. But I see no problem with the ear protection deal. Skin cancer is BAD.

Does the line already come tied on the Rod tie device ?
I stopped my the booth at the Classic. Honestly, if I was older and couldn’t hold steady or see the guides, I buy one in a heart beat.
line ties on similar to a clip on drop shot weight. I used it at the classic expo, and I'm at the point of needing (but not wanting) reading glasses to see stuff close up.
I had line threaded on a 7ft rod in about 5 seconds from picking up the device, clipping line on, and threading the eyes. If I were re-stringing 20 rods for a tournament regularly, I'd have one in my shop just for the time savings.

the line threading thing might work for folks that have arthritis in their hands
"The man of system is apt to be very wise in his own conceit; and is often so enamored with the supposed beauty of his own ideal plan of government that he cannot suffer the smallest deviation from any part of it…He seems to imagine that he can arrange the different members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces upon a chessboard.” Adam Smith, The Theory of Moral Sentiments
I use these... they were made fun of in another thread a while back, but if you have older eyes, use readers, have arthritis, etc - they are very useful. They have a microguide vesion as well.

If I were a tournament guy who was constantly restringing multiple rods I guarantee I would have one. Why not cut the time down rigging tackle and spend it researching etc.
