Bass Master Classic and the following media blitz...

Anyone else notice the lack of advertising or hullabaloo following this years Classic. I've only received one email touting Defoe's Classic win. Ott may have picked the worse year to win the Classic since he really can't capitalize on it to it's fullest potential... Gotta be a "team player" and touting yourself as the 2019 Classic Winner may ruffle some higher-up at MFL/ BPsT, and you can be sure as hell BASS ain't gonna promote you either... BPS may give you some love but that ain't worth the extra monies winning the Classic is said to provide... Dan

I still see a ton of stuff on my FB feed about Defoe winning the classic from BASS and several of his sponsors. Kinda annoying at this point.

If you talk to past Classic champions, most will dispute Ray Scott's old claim that a Classic win is worth $1M. Truth is it has some value but not anywhere near that for most, and you have a great point about this being a very awkward year to win.

I think there is a big shift taking place now as to what type of media is used now broadcast such news. More emphasis on IG, YouTube, Twitter and FB. Been a fair amount of "news" on those places. Crazy as it sounds sites like these are no longer the primary means of advertising and news within the industry. Not a knock on BBC or any other fishing fite. Just saying content and the way we consume it is changing quickly.

    What's so awkward?

Sometime in the future, B.A.S.S. is going to give spots in the Classic to the yearly top BPT anglers, and everything will be hunky-dory.

Which past Champions told you that?

I can see this happening, too.

I’m sure his sponsors are making a big deal about it.

Maybe you just aren't up on the Social Media thing the word is turning to. Ott's win was and still is all over it. Rapala is even reproducing his DT Flat mod as a stock bait.

Yep the Classic is dead, done, over. I bet they will not even have a 100 people show for the 50th next year in Birmingham

I got an email from Humminbird, that's it. I don't do Facebook or any other, whatever you want to call them sites. I'd bet in the past most sponsors spent their advertisement money crowing in BASS and BASS Times about their Classic winner. It doesn't cost (other than the one IT employee's salary) Humminbird, Rapala or BPS to send out an email, but it does cost them advertisement money to put an ad in a fishing publication... I guess time are a changin' and I'm gonna be left behind... Dan

    From a marketing perspective, clarity.

The BASS Masters Classic winner used to be the clear champion for the year. The rise of FLW and having twice as many "tour level events" and two "champions" diluted the title somewhat (BMC still by far the bigger title to the public) and now with three tours it is even more diluted.

I am not in any way shape or form suggesting it is easier to win or should be treated differently, but the truth is it just is. I hope Ott does very well with his endorsements but I would bet everything I have that it will not lead to an additional $1M windfall the way it used to be talked about.
