    Crank it up!

Crankbait throwers, how do you guys/gals tie on?
Direct to bait no split ring,
    direct to split ring
    or do y’all use a snap/clasp ?
just looking for some feedback as I’m “newer” to the technique.

Been throwing them for years. I tie directly to the split ring.

I use both. If I am running a deep diver I tie to the split ring. If I am using a squarebill or shallow running crank, I will use the snap ring. I tend to change out more often until I can figure out what they like when cranking shallow.
I use the snap ring that have the 90 degree bend to lock them on. I have lost a few bigger fish with the plain straight locking pins.

Tie to split ring myself. If you do use a snap, you should remove the split rings.

I've been moving toward removing the split ring or snap and using a loop knot like the Rapala knot. Something about that knot is really strong, I think because it's not cinched down onto steel and getting burned when it slides, even if ever so slightly. Action is excellent that way too.

Else I'll just tie directly to a (strong) snap or split ring.

I use Norman Speed Clips with and without the split ring. Depends on the Crankbait how much wobble I want.
Regular for most except really large cranks, then I go to the Magnum clip.
I use the Magnum with my hollow body frogs too.

If I’m not sure exactly what I’m going to be throwing I put a size 1 Norman Speed Clip on and usually bypass the split ring. Whether or not I use the split ring I make sure my knot is never where the ring goes down to 1 size (where you slide it on/off the lure). For this reason I much prefer the oblong split rings.

I use a snap clipped right to the split ring, been doing it for years and never had a problem. I use it on all hard baits, not just crankbaits, I also use them on spinnerbaits (I use closed eye spinnerbaits) and buzz baits.

Use modified Rapala knot (leaves a loop). Works great on flouro.

Can't stand split rings, off they go, and I replace them with a snap.

Love cranks and lipless cranks. Tie straight to split ring.
