The forum looked lonely - New 3n1 shots with Live 12s - Shallow = grainy

Others in the Lowrance forum made comments about grainyness of new transducer, I took the new toys out to play and thought it nice to share for those looking to upgrade or general knowledge. Since the HDS Lives come with a 3n1 in the box, I swapped the LSS2 on the transom and mounted the 2nd one on the trolling motor (terrova) using precision sonar gear. I can confirm graininess in shallow water. I am still fiddling with the transom 3n1 to ensure its completely level before I try anything else to get better images. The first few images I switched from 455 to 800 or vice versa mid screen to capture both.

If you zoom in on shots 3&5 you will see clouding starting at 30' and continuing thru the images. I have that same scenario on my unit since I added the AI 2 in 1 transducer. Anyone else experiencing this issue, and were you able to eliminate it?

I will tell you turning distorts the image, waves can distort the image, transducer not being level can distort the image. All that be understood, Yes the images to me in shallow water are lacking for price and advertising of the product. Lowrance forum has more about this and other issues with new ducers. Check there for full on venting.

I think your contrast is too dark adding to the grainy image

I have noticed in my brief experience that the contrast needs to be adjusted by pallet choice and frequency. Make sure you adjust contrast for each setting.

Shallow water performance is exactly why I'm thinking about taking the price hit and making the switch to HB.

I almost went to HB this year when I upgraded but I like the gui on Lowrance, the touchscreens and you dont have to choose a DI vs SI graph. Several other reasons, several conversations with hb buddies tell me to switch but I know whether I regret it once I put the Lowrance TM on the front and whether I'm able to dial in the graphs. These graphs either HB or Lo are not kids toys they take time on different water to dial in so I am hoping with a few more trips to work out the bugs.

My wish is for Lowrance to add Contrast adjustment function to the Programmable Quick Keys without having the Menu Bar up.

I got mine out today for the first time and it looks identical to yours. What are the black lines on each side when using 800?

what is you GPS speed in those shallow pics?
Also I set your range out much father, it seems the Ai transducer have much better range compared to LSS may be due to the crystal rearrangement they did in the Ai transducers.
    I would manually set range.
In your first image at 455khz I would have had it adjusted to 120feet.
2nd image at 455khz about 120 and then in the same pic at 800khz maybe 80.
    3rd image maybe about 160feet
    4th image about 140feet
5th looks great with maybe a little range adjustment , but not much.
