    Wedge for ultrex?

I have a 2005 tr20x and I’m very close to pulling the trigger on the ultrex. I remember seeing something about needing some kind of wedge to level off the ultrex due to the design of tritons. Do I really need one and if I do where do I get one? Thanks!

Good job, looks great. While you’re at it you probably should’ve made about half a dozen, I’m sure you could’ve sold them pretty easily. Even if every boat model the same as yours doesn’t sit exactly the same, I would bet it would be close enough to make a big difference for every boat of the same model.

I will need a better bandsaw (or access to one) if I'm going to be making several of these. The planer is not the best option. It takes way to long and the Trex composite board isn't good on the knives. I'll do some looking and see what I can come up with. If I can find one, making them would be a breeze...

Yes that's about what it ended up being. Here's the measurements of the final product.

Just to confirm, you lost 4” of usable shaft length by installing the wedge?

Keith Poche and Precision Sonar worked together to come up with a solution to make the trolling motor level on the Tritons so here it is!!!

    Calling it the Poche Wedge

You can call me direct to order 270-703-6133

    Thanks

Looks like too much degree's in that wedge.

No. I did lose about and inch and 3/4 of shaft length in the water. The 4 inches was lost in height that the trolling motor head was off of the deck in the stowed position. By raising the prop end 1.75 inches to compensate for the downward pitch of the bow, it lowered the the angle at which the head was above the deck. Which also makes my boat cover fit properly now as well.

He’s right at 5.25 degrees. Definitely would not be too much on my Triton. To get true vertical I would need about 6.5 degrees based on one person on front deck and one person on back deck.

The 5.26° was a result of the height measurement needed at the front of the mount to make the Ultrex shaft perpendicular to the water surface (with me on the deck and the boat in the water). The first wedge I made was fabricated to level the Ultrex mount level on the deck. It was level, but I discovered the shaft was not plumb, so I made another wedge and had to nearly double the thickness, thus doubling the angle. So a 2.8° wedge WILL level the mount, but the shaft will still be nearly 3° out of plumb toward the transom.
