2017 Chevy 6.0L engine opinion please...

I have one with 31,000 miles. It runs great, has great performance with the 6 speed trans, and gets better gas mileage than my last 4.8L 4 speed trans. Same rear end gears 3:42.

Just wondering what others experiences are and how many miles have you seen on these.

That’s a great mota....in the service industry that block gets beat to death and regularly gets 2-300 miles put on them. Just saw one torn down with over 200,000 from UPS....internals looked fresh.

You'll wear out the truck before you wear out that motor.

Why did they tear down a fresh looking mota?

I dont think the taller gears are needed as much now that these transmissions have more gears. I have more pulling power than I need. Rated for 10,000 pounds towing, Pulling a balsa wood boat.

That 6.0 is a power house. They are using that motor in the Isuzu NPR trucks as well. One of my customers has one with a big water tank on the back of it. Even with the tank almost full, that thing is a rocket.,

    80K miles on a '13 2500HD with 6.0 and 4:10 gears. I love this truck. Gas mileage runs from 11.0 to 13.0.

Had a 2015 2500 with the 6.0 and 4.10 gears. It was a complete dog and got 7.5 towing and 10 empty. Traded it for a 6.6 and get 12 towing and up to 21 empty. The 6.0 is seriously lacking and I’m curious to see the new 6.6 gas option’s performance

2013, 3500HD 129,000 miles and is going as strong as ever. I only get 11 to 12 MPH doesn't matter if I'm towing or not. I hope to get 300K plus out of this truck the body should wear out before the motor.

6.0 motor is made to work. 2500 had 6.0 or duramax only as motors. the 6.0 is steel block and aluminum heads without afm mostly also

It sounds like all these lower gas mileage posts are from older models and only 4 speed transmissions... I wonder what else changed in the newer models?

last yr or two they added variable valve timing and maybe afm but still a steel block I believe

Don’t ask me how I know but if you get the idea to supercharge your 6.0, don’t expect to ever get over 5g miles out of a transmission. The case or the planetary gears are going to fail. Period. It will pull anything you hook up to though. Just not for long

It’s a great motor. With regular maintenance it will outlast the steel it’s built around. If you want more power, put a little supercharger on it, add 45% hp/tq and get better gas mileage!

With the newer transmissions having more gears I grew up with, the motor stays in its optimal power range seemingly forever!

If if I could only find a good core to build my next hot rod motor from!

The 6.0 is also a great marine engine. I have one in my jet boat, has 380 hrs and has ran awesome. It's an 05 LQ4 motor runs with 20/50 in the crankcase.

I’ve owned 5 of them and 2 currently. Run them to 250k before I sell them. Might need a water pump around 150k other than that no problems at all!!

I have owned 3 older 6.0 gas engines, still have a 6.0 in a 2006 model and had over 200,000 miles on it and just had it rebuilt. I think they are great workhouse engines and one of the best engines for a shop truck for pulling and overall daily use. I love em and will probably always have one in a shop truck around the shop for sure!!
