    stratos 273 and rpms

Bought the boat last year. 1999 with a 1999 Johnson Faststrike.

Boat ran 65 mph or so empty with either a 24 raker or a powertech 4 blade, 24 I believe. Most rpms was right at 5400

Steering cables were going bad, so I lowered motor to be able to steer til I got hydraulic steering put it. 61 mph or so at 5400 rpms.

I put hydraulic steering in. Raised motor back up after and ran yesterday. Only ran 52 or 53 mph no matter the trim, well didn't try to go faster because was at 5400 rpms and still had a ton of throttle left. Gave it more gas and rpms jumped to 6,000 quickly, I backed off immediately, not sure wondering if I have a bad tach. I will lower motor, but doesn't make sense. It only turned 5400 when I got it and was basically empty, now it has 3 batteries, trolling motor, gas, 50 lb anchor and and a load of fishing gear. anyone have a clue?

How does the boat ride? I'm looking at one this weekend, 1999 273. Anything I should look for as this will be my first boat purchase.

Great riding boat except for large rollers, have to take your time through them, other than that just fine.
