First time on the water in two years for my old Champion

After multiple surgeries on my left hip a friend and I pulled my boat up to Pickwick and fished most all day. Made sure the batteries were charged, put some fresh fuel in it and to my surprise she ran like I have been on the water just yesterday. Guess you could say she ran like a champ! Was worried though after it had been sitting so long. Took us a while to figure out what kind of pattern we needed to be working but did catch several good fish. Been so long I almost forgot how good that feels! I sincerely hope and pray I am back in the saddle again. A prayer goes out to all my Champion family, that are sick or feeling down, May the good Lord give you strength and health and we learn to appreciate what he has given us!

That must feel great to dunk the Champ again. I didn't get mine out last year either, due to work being busy. But....I saved all my overtime money for gas and this spring I'll be fishing again, a lot, I hope. I expect her to fire right up and run well. Good that you caught fish too!

Glad you are finally recovering enough to get back on the water. Glad to hear your champ performed well. I am kinda in the same situation. I haven't wet a line since October (motor cratered ) .I'm headed down to Pickwick Wednesday and have no clue what pattern to look for. My luck will be the backlash pattern.

We found most fish in 2-6 ft water. Flat sided crank baits worked best for us. A jerk bait may even be better if water is a little clearer by the time you are there. Big thing we figured out was the gravel bars or points held the best fish. Water temperatures was in middle to high 50's. If it warms some it will be game on! Good luck and report how your day went!
