    mechanic question

if you were going to put a boat up for sale and a potential buyer wanted to have it checked out by a mechanic, leak down test, compression etc, and you dont have a trusted mechanic that could do it at that time, how would you handle the situation. ive contacted a few different mechanics that said they are backed up and it would be a couple weeks before they could do anything, and the only mechanic i trust said the same thing. whats the best way to handle it? thanks

Get who you want to do the inspection. If you have to wait then so be it, just schedule an appointment. Tell the mechanic you are getting ready to put it on the market and you would like paperwork that verifies what was done and the overall health of the motor at the time of inspection. If your motor has a computer ask for a print out reading. It contains tons of useful information.

If a prospective buyer is not willing to wait for you to get the motor checked then graciously tell him to find another boat. There is always boats for sale with some wanting to buy. When the right seller and buyer get together it's a smooth transaction. When the wrong buyer and seller get together it is a nightmare. I have point blank told people your not the buyer I am looking for that I will just sell to someone else. Sometime they get mad and sometimes they understand.
