Somebody asked about seeing fish on SideVu

Somebody asked about whether or not you could see fish on SideVu.

Rule 1. You have to be where there are fish.
Rule 2. You have to know how to adjust the settings.

The GT54UHD is starting to grow on me.
Most of these fish are crappie 8-12 inches.

    FishA.jpg GT54
    1. Several fish at 100 ft to the left.
    2. A couple of fish 70 ft to the left
    3. 15 or so fish 100-120 ft to the left.
    4. A few scattered fish about 110 ft to the left
    5. Fish holding close to the rocks.
Notice that the settings for the rest of the area will not work for the rocky area.
Notice that if the settings had been correct for the rocky area they would have been wrong for the rest of the screen.
    6. Fish in the water column.
    7. Shadows of fish
    8. Scatter fish and shadows to the right about 110 ft.
Notice the shadows of these fish are close, so they are closer to the bottom.

    FishB.jpg GT54
    Mostly water column fish.

FishC. jpg GT54 - you figure it out.

    FishD.jpg GT54.
Notice the fish at 155 left and right
As you extend the range the fish get smaller

    FishE.jpg GT50
    Notice fish and shadows.
Notice the fish on the right at 160-185

    FishF.jpg GT50
    Fish and shadows.

My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

No promotion at all. It's just the transducer I was using today. saw fish and remembered someone had asked about seeing them on SideVu. So I dialed it in. Actually quite surprised. The xd was on the TM and pics don't usually turn out this good from a TM transducer since there's usually a bit of vibration or movement. Today's results though do make me rethink esteeming the GT34 over this transducer. If I remember right the GT34 doesn't have the frequency selection this one offers and distance really matters to me. The GT34 has better detail up close, but this one reaches out pretty good on 455.

Chief Brody. I don't remember the settings but when looking distances like this where the range is considerably greater than the depth, I generally start with 70 for brightness and contrast and fine tune from there. First step is to dim the bottom to get rid of white and then find the point where the fish show white. Also on the number of targets. On the upper third of this lake are three rivers that pour in. Pre-spawn crappie are like this in each tributary. 90% of the fishermen will be going up the bank casting shallow. 90% of the fish will be in the open water. Any day now though, they will be going to the banks.

From a 93sv Plus. Take these for what they are, there is ton of pine pollen and other tree pollen in the water column. These are from Garmin Homeport.

Is the large bright area a rock outcropping?

I'm just starting to go through the interperation threads now, but am I visualizing these images correctly in my head? The shadows tell me how far out the fish are based on the scan range?

This is exacly how my GT30 looked when I first got it. Like it has too much gain and picks up all the tiny stuff in the water. But if you turned the gain down every was super dark. Turning the TVG from medium to high made all the difference. Got rid of all the tiny clutter and just shows bottom detail. Cant say for sure if it looses additional detail but easy enough to try.
