Anyone know if Champion produced a 198 in 2003? NADA does not show a 198............

That’s partly why I asked him, I have only seen 2004 & up. 196 isn’t a bad boat though, holeshot sometimes is fickle though.

Just read an article dated October 17, 2003, where they mention the NEW 198, to be built in Tennessee at Genmar. The article didn't say when. The article was published by FishingWorld.com.

That would be without a doubt a New 2004 198 model.

I have an older gentleman trying to sell me a 2003 198. I have seen the pics and it is a 198, although he swears it is a 2003.
So, I guess it's possible he bought this boat in late 2003 and it is in fact an 04???

The last 4 of the HIN will tell you. The first is a letter representing the month of manufacture, the next is the year of manufacture. The last 2 are the title year. So, if the last 2 are 03, see if you can post some pix of it, especially the front deck so we can identify it.

Prob made in 03 and titled for 04, motors prob a 2003.

Definitely not model year 2003. 2004 was the first model year for the 198. As said above, probably built in late 2003 and is 2004 model. The model hear changes mid-summer, so a boat built mid to late in any given year would be titled as the next years model

My buddy has a 196 and he really likes it. Unless it’s mint condition or has really fancy graphs $18k might be a little high. Should run about 65mph or so.

Bought the boat today. Guy is in his 80s and bought new in 03. Unbelievably new condition, I think it got caught in a time warp.....paid 16k
