    Stepped Up!

Well, after a season and a half of having my kidneys pounded on the Bay of Quinte/Lake Ontario/1000 Islands, I traded my 04' 295 Pro XL for a 2009 201 XL Evolution/250 E-TEC HO.

I spent the day today peeling off my sonars and assorted electronics off the 295. Removing the Talons tomorrow, then bringing it in to the dealer.

The 201 only has 282 hours, perfect compression, was meticulously maintained, and spent its days in a heated garage when not on the water. The dealer is gonna switch out the JP and install an Ultrex as part of the deal.

Oh, and I retired last Monday... can't wait for open water!

You'll love the ride on that boat. I just picked mine up yesterday. Still got some tweaking to do on it but by far one of the smoothest hulls I've ever been in.
That's a sweet looking rig though man! Congrats on the find!

Thanks, man! ... and congrats to you too!

I saw the boat last season when the owner blew buy me while I was clipping along at 65 mph. He does the 1000 Islands Open (Kingston, ON) every year and last year got his a$$ kicked trying to go out to the Main Duck Islands on day one, so he traded it in on a new Z522D. I don't know if that's going to help, 'cause when the lake blows up with 30 knot winds and 1.5 metre waves on top of 6' rollers, nobody in their right mind should be out there.

I'm pretty stoked, since I got a great deal. Everyone in Canada wants a Ranger or Triton and not a discontinued brand. Me, I don't care. I know that these boats are built like a tank (except for those silly plastic storage pockets under the center lid). At least this boat has a spare brand new one in bubble wrap.

I've never owned a 'Rude before, so that will be a learning experience as well.

... and I'm looking where I can get the tool holder for the cooler step (pic: left of console on a newer model).

Just talked to the dealer yesterday. They're bringing it into the shop Tuesday to switch out the jack plate and install the Ultrex... and the ice is almost out!

    The countdown is on!

The 201 XLE has a 6" manual jackplate on it right now, set at 3" ptp, and a Razor 14 1/2 x 25" prop. I know the boat goes like a scalded cat, since it blew by me last year like I was moored (I was doing 60 mph).

I'm switching to an 8" HJP and am wondering if there is anything that I should look for? I know that I'll have some tweaking to do, such as ride height at ptp.

I'll also need a spare (get me home) prop.... any suggestions?

Well, I met the previous owner today at a local tackle/gear swap meet. Seems he wasn't responding to my texts because he thought the dealer gave me his phone number (I found it on another local forum in the classifieds/wasn't lurking),

He told me that the present set-up is for the Great Lakes with a Croxtonized Razor 4 - 25". One thing led to another and he happened to have his inland prop, another Croxtonized Fury, which I immediately bought for a super deal.

    4 blade @ 3" ptp = 75 mph
3 blade @ ? (where the plain line mark is on the jp) = 80+ mph

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Gonna tell the dealer to leave it as is.

I love it when the universe aligns.

Just saved a sh*tload of time and money!

Nice! I would still go with the hydraulic JP, that way you can adjust on the fly depending upon conditions.
Sounds like you still have the L2 gearcase. That one is a runner!

Yup, he mentioned the L2 as well.

... and the hjp was starting to do the funky chicken anyway. I think the actuator was on it's way out.

Sweet! You hit the jackpot there buddy! Hopefully I'll be testing mine out Friday evening again.
That roller I got looks to be a world of difference too. Should work just fine eyeballing it.

Please send me a link to that roller. I believe that and my Fulton F2 winch will solve a lot of steep ramp loading problems.

I'm still looking for a decent tool holder. The '09's didn't come with any. What was Larry Nixon thinking?

    Here is that link.
I'll keep my eye open for one. Might have to do a little bit of custom work. As far as being able to shape something into a tool holder I think kydex is the way to go. Can get some cool patterns and I have a buddy that has made a holster for me and made some pliar holsters too and they have held up great. It comes in big flat sheets and is easy to manipulate. Plus the edges will sand down good and not catch on everything.

    Thanks for the link!

... that kydex looks pretty cool, but seems to be a lot of work for one piece. I did find a Rapala tool holder for $10. For what it's worth, that might be the way to go.

Finally got my new baby home yesterday!

Gonna back the a$$ into the garage, and be a busy day tomorrow bolting on the Talons. Then out fishing for lakers on Tuesday.

    20190413_194406.jpg

I like that there are no reverse chines on the hull. Gonna make running the big water a lot easier. Should cut through the waves as opposed to the constant slapping/pounding on top of the waves.

    20190413_194624.jpg

    20190413_194548.jpg

Deep seats and higher freeboard should be a lot comfier and drier too.

    20190413_194650.jpg

I like the taller windshields as well... some of you don't, but it gets nasty out on Lake Ontario.

    20190413_194706.jpg

    20190413_195509.jpg

Took it out for a water test at the dealer Friday morning, and she handled the rough stuff like a dream.

    Can't wait to go fishing!
