Rock river Lake Koshkonong

Bass fishing is open year round on these waters so I plan on getting out in the next couple of weeks. I have never fished here and am looking for smallmouth or largemouth. I hear smallies tend to stay in the river. Is the west end or East end of the lake where the Rock comes in better than the other for bass?
Is it worth fishing the lake at all?
Any help would be great. I just need to get out and fish.

Interested in your results. My old club went there in April with not much success.

I’ve tried a couple times but haven’t caught a bass. Lots of pike though. The bass are there just limited.

If I were to go there early I'd target eyes, crappies, bluegills. The bass are there but your catch rate will be extremely low unless you hit a good rare school.

Go to the pool under Koshkonong between Janesville and Beloit. They have bass tournaments in that pool but the fish are rarely over 2.5 pounds.

So, how'd you do on Kosh?

Never made it out yet. Was going to go out on the Rock River in Beloit this Saturday but it looks like it is going to be crappy out. I still might go. I will let you know how I do if I can get some time to go. Work is always getting in the way of fishing!!!!

I've lived within minutes of Kosh but never fished early season there, always had too much fun on the Miss. or Wi. rivers, the Rock in Beloit does have some fish, real hit or miss, they removed the Monterey dam in Janesville this last summer, it'll be interesting how that effects water levels in Beloit, good luck.

There is a tournament on the Beloit pool next weekend 4/20. Think it’s pretty cheap to get in too.

I’m thinking about it too. Never fished down there before but I don’t think it will take much to cash a check.
