    Transducer Sheild Warning

IMG_20181029_160121055.jpgI had a transducer sheild on the transon for my Solix transducer. While out on the lake all of a sudden my bottom readings went crazy and then stopped all together. Pulled the boat at the end of the day and my transducer was gone! For my Solix the transducer sheid has two parts, one holds the transducer and one holds it to the jackplate. There are two screws that hold it together. Screws had worked themselves loose and the transducer fell off the mounting bracket and was cut off my the prop.

About $400 later I had a new transducer and a new lower bracket. The new bracket had a note included that states the screws should be tightened so often. Did not see that the first time but I did not install it, I had it installed so maybe it was there but I did not see it. So be warned, if you have a two part bracket, make sure you check the screws preiodically. Mine was less than a year old.

Checking screws, bolts, nuts, etc. should be done periodically on most anything on a boat..... maybe put some blue loctite on the screws....

Thanks for the info. I have the same set up as you. Sucks that you lost your transducer, they cost more than the entire electronics set up on my older boats.

I've done that now. But not even a year and it was loose?

    That stinks!
Mine has been on for many years. But I will check screws and all tomorrow if I remember after work.

DO NOT!!! get blue lock tite anywhere close to your transducer! At least hummingbird, in my experience it eats the plastic to the point where it just crumbles.

Lol. How much loc-tite would you have to use to melt plastic on a transducer? You just need to put it on 5-6 threads and put the bolt in. You don’t need to squirt it in the hole.

This is interesting, as loctite comes in plastic bottles. There are all kinds of plastics though, so I wonder what in the loctite is attacking what in the transducer?
