Testing Hydro-Tec's new Lower unit mods 1.62 Gears nose cones for Sho Hpdi Lower

I had the opportunity to run Hydro-Tec's Yamaha SHO Modded gear case this past weekend i ran it vs the 1.62 Sportmaster back to back same day same conditions same prop....Most noticeable was the water pressure/cooling..... The sportmaster I have been running for several years now and it has it quirks with holding pressure and cooling the big yamaha.... its fairly often when surfacing the prop/gearcase it will drop pressure and hit guardian/hot alarm and it does it fairly easily...with Hydro-Tecs Modded Yamaha case it cools much better I didn't hit guardian at all even when I dropped the pressure to less than 5lbs still no overheat.....the sportmaster will hit guardian at 10-12lbs...Top speeds were nearly identical with the biggest improvements in handling and engine cooling and of course the annoying sportmaster gear clunk when it slams into gear....Yamaha cases don't do this.

Most likely the difference was due to fuel load the Sho case was run first with full fuel @102 and then the Sportmaster case
@102 .....later when the fuel load was low the sporty ran 2 mph faster @104

I have wanted a Stroker for a long time but alas age has caught up with me. If I was about 15 years younger I would have one.

Very impressive numbers you put up!

I dont see your age in your profile but I know 2 guys in there 70s that have them and I will be 60 in 2020. They are great boats along with the other 2 brands of what some consider go fast bassboats.

I am 74 and retired since 2006. My last go fast boat was an Allison XB2003 with 225 Pro Max.

    Had also owned a XB2002 and 2 Bullets, a 20XD and 21 XD.

We did not have many Strokers down here but love the width and speed of the ones I saw.

Back in the day Bass & Walleye Magazine tested a Stroker and I could not believe how fast it was fully loaded including tackle.

I used to go to quite a few outboard drag boat races and remember Bob Kottman from Missouri and Wayne Taylor from Selma, Alabama running some strong ' Hammers.

    I sure miss those days.

Hydro-tec has several F-1 titles and still build motors for F-1 teams...
