    1999 225 FICHT Water Pump

Hey all. Was just going to put a new impeller in and then I found after I took it all apart I might as well just do a whole new water pump rebuild kit. My question is - take a look at the pic - do I need to replace that rubber boot too with the wear on that side like it is?

    thanks!

That gasket goes on the upper side of the shoe. The lower part of the gasket goes on the outside of that part and seats inside the gear case.Should be PN 0320961. Install the lower shoe goes up into the housing to keep it there use a piece of masking tape to hold it in place.

Yes the gasket goes on the outside (yellow) not on the inside (orange) this way it seals out the exhaust gasses from the lower unit. Clean off all that goop from the housing and install the new gasket.

OK - this might be a dumb question. Finally got all my parts and I am not putting everything back together. I went all the way down and put a new gasket on and then the aluminum plate and then the impeller, etc. Once I slide the new water pump housing down the shaft and tighten it all down - on the port side there is a very small gap between the aluminum plate and the water pump housing. Yes I put the O-ring in the water pump housing. Its just big enough that I can see light thru it - I stand on the starboard side of the lower unit and look from the back across the port side to the front port side and that is where I see the gap - maybe 1/32" or something like that. So, being curious, I pulled off the new water pump housing and put the old one back on and tightened it down and I can see the same small gap thru it too. Is this normal? Doesn't seem like it should be normal...please HELP!

Yep that's the correct one, make sure the impeller cup is fully seated in the housing and the small thin washer is installed correctly between the cup and housing. Shouldn't be a gap. Snug them down in an X pattern and then give them a final tightening.

Tried everything. Pic is what I am up against. It’s almost like a mfg defect on that port side. I’m ordering another kit to see if it’s different. A43B2BF5-0D8D-4267-A647-45B7A282DFAF.jpeg

Before you do that, lets see a picture of the water pump installed on the gear case. from your original description it sounded like it was a vertical gap between the impeller housing and the gear case.

Sorry - what exactly do you want a picture of? If you look at that last picture you can see the gap on the port side between the water pump housing and the metal plate that the impeller sits on.

A complete view of the pump installed on the case, one from the top and port side would be fine. The D ring should seal off any leaks.
