    Mercury service

Looking for a recommendation. I have always used Knox but they can't get me in as soon as I'd like. I live about 20 miles SW of Akron. Anyone familiar with Vic's, Buckeye or Ravenna? Just need to fix a leaky lower unit. 250 pro xs. Don't really want to drop boat off, hopefully get it fixed while I wait.

What about Maston's in Massillon? It's off Kenyon - come out route 30 to Lincoln way, turn left on Kenyon and he's about a mile up on the left. Rick has always treated me right in the past. Or Petty's in Massillon - I know he had a bad reputation in the past, but he's got a new mechanic there now and is a good guy.

I would call Vic's and see if they can get you in. If not, you might call Portage Lakes Marine. They are on Rt. 93, just north of the State Park.

I wouldn't call them if they were the last mechanics on the face of the earth. The horror stories I've heard about that place.

If you are 20 miles SW of Akron I would strongly consider the drive to Knox Marine. Stand up guys who service mostly fishermen, not rich Portage Lakes boat owners.

I already knew about the rumors. Heard he should be in jail. Something don't add up. They used to be a major Ranger and Triton dealer. Now they have junky used boats.

They never should have taken on Ranger. Back then they were competitors and those manufacturers force products on the marinas that they can't sell. Warranty work for boat companies is more that complicated and it's not beneficial to marinas either. BTW probably not rumors at all.

I bought my 2nd Ranger from Portage Lakes Marine (at the time, Norton Marine), the used Lund that I currently have, and the 25 HP Yamaha that I have on the Lund. Never had a problem...although I know there were some issues in the past.

The only way I can think of this time of year is buy an SEI and use it until you get yours fixed. They are under a grand and ship to your door.

I live basically next door in Doylestown. Takes me 30 min or so to get to Vics - straight out 76 to 43 and your there.. They are great guys and service oriented. If you give them a call and schedule it you most likely can get some day service. Nothing against Knox but I think Vics might be easier to get to.. Both are great dealers IMHO.

Rsc81.... Have you had any personal experience with the guys at Simmons? I have a 2007 Merc opti max 225 i'd like to have looked over. I have been following this thread and trying to decide where to go and would like any feedback since these guys are just down the road from me.
