Walleye squirting

Had a guy telling me that he was ice fishing some south Kansas lake, he was catching Walleye, as he brought them out of the hole they were already squirting, he also said guys that had caught a size legal walleye that when they pinched the tail it measured, but when warden showed, fish were frozen, could not pinch tail, short fish ,,,,,ticket, ,,,, this is his story, ??????? But he said he released his fish that were close because of this matter

Wouldn’t supprised me if they were starting to squirt. Walleyes will span here as soon as the ice comes off. Growing up in Kansas my brother swears not till water hits 50degrees. Has to do more with season and moon phase than anything. Last year smallies were spawining up here in 53 degree water.
