Haven't started since last October. Thought I would see how it sounds when I turned the key before I left to go fishing today . It didn't turn over like normal . It just made a light humming sound . What should I try 1st . It's a 2001.

Did you check to see if your starter is rising on the bendix.
Battery connections need to be as clean and shiny as new penny. A light coat of dialect grease is also recommended. You should NOT have wig nuts as connectors. ONLY use nylon locking nuts at the battery. A fully charged battery (at rest) will read 13.2-14.2V at 10.4V it is totally dead. At room temperature if it has been resting 12.0 V is about 50% discharged. If you charge a battery and check voltage as soon as it's done you will get a smaller reading once the battery has come to rest for a couple hours.
On the starter and solenoid you should have a nut with a star washer. Make sure those connections are tight. Use a meter and check voltage at the starter and solenoid. If my memory is correct I "think" it takes a minimum of 11 V to engage a starter.
this is an automotive video but the principle is similiar...
here is where they are doing it on an actual boat motor...
