    wheel lug nut torque

    single axle, 14" rims. Aluminum 5 lug wheel. what torque should the lug nuts be tightened to?

    95# unless your manual states otherwise or is on a sticker on the trailer.

    Don't forget to retorque after a ride or two, if you've had the wheels off the trailer.

    Make sure that whatever torque you go with, you have the means to loosen the lug nuts on the side of the road in the worse possible circumstances...

    That's what I recently bought a battery powered impact.
    That and I couldn't bust the installed by ranger lugs loose with a wrench.

    Yep , I only torque mine to 75 ft lb and have a battery powered impact in the truck

    1/2-20 UNF lug nuts are 100 ft lbs dry. 80 lbs with anti-seize (recommend). Anti-seize only on threads NOT on cone mating surface. If you have carbon steel open end lug nuts a better option is to replace them with closed end stainless lug nuts (for sale on EBay). Suggest that you run a thread chaser on all studs prior to anti-seize application (removes corrosion/straightens thread profile) & installing the SS lug nuts. You should never have any issues with removal of a wheel.

    A mechanic I've known for yrs told me he liked 90 ft lbs so that's what I've always torqued mine at but to each there own.

    I’m on board with battery impact thing.

    But, for insurance I keep a 25 inch breaker bar in my truck with extra 6 point impact sockets that fit both my truck and my trailer lug nuts in case all else fails.

    Guess I’ve been bit too many times over a lifetime of trailering boats and travel trailers just about everywhere in the lower 48.

    Don’t forget thin walled deep sockets for aluminum rims, luckily I checked a couple years ago and the socket in my set was to thick and shallow to get on the nut. Bought one specifically for the trailer lugs
