    Transducer Mounting Plate

What type of screws would you recommend to fasten the mounting plate to the transom? And what type of silicone would you use behind the plate to seal it to the boat? The season is right around the corner and this is the one major upgrade that I need to get done.

I went with bolts, washers, and lock nuts sealed with 4200

I used screws and 4200. But honestly I’m not sure if no screws and 5200 would work just fine. That 5200 is damn near permanent. I would suspect that 95% of time owners never intend to move that board anyways?

and btw my screws went all the way through the hull and punctured my bilge pump tubing. What a pain that was to remedy. This the thinking about a screwless option.

SS Screws and 4200. I used one of the screw holes from something that was already there, so I only had to drill one new hole. I sealed the holes and smeared the sealant all over the back of the board then wiped the excess off when I installed it. I'll be amazed if I ever get water intrusion from that piece.

My screws went through also, but I checked clearance before drilling, because tubing was looking in the way. It was "close", very close! I then screwed/glued a small rubber cap on end of screw so it won't rub against tubing.

What did you use to wipe the extra sealant off without damaging the paint?

Hey Champ you were more planful than I! Think manufacturers should have a warning sticker there on the stern that says check bilge tubing location before drilling. Even with that it’s hard to estimate exactly where the screws are coming through.

It being my first boat I learned so much. I ended up cutting a foam bobber in half and stuck it on the screw to prevent it from doing any more harm.
