    Talons or Power Poles?

    Hey everyone.

Looking at getting a set of poles or talons this year. I know both have their pros and cons, but my main concern is the weight of them. I have an 05 Z21 with a 250 Verado. I run a fury 4 so i get up on pad almost instantly right now.

Does anyone have any experience with the weight of the talons keeping them from getting on pad? How concerned should i be about this before i go and spend 4k plus?

    Any advise is greatly appreciated!

You can get really good deals from BBC sponsors, so make sure you shop with them if you buy either. I am very biased to PP as they work for me and I don't worry about them. The support team is top notch. My blades are 2012 and the pumps are starting to whine. I called about getting replaced and they told me to just remove, send to them and they would rebuild for free. These are going on 7 years old!

The torque of the Verado will help holeshot, but I took quite a hit on my '15 521/250 ProXS when I added dual 12' Talons. I lost 3mph, holeshot sucked. I changed to a Fury 4/Bravo1 XS (from a Fury 3) and added a foil to get it back. They will slow you down and cost you some holeshot, but they're worth it in my opinion. I believe Power Poles are lighter.

This was with two guys and dual Talons:

    2002 Ranger 175VS - Mercury 125
    2006 Ranger Z20 - Mercury 225
    2008 Ranger TR-177 - Mercury 115
    1987 Ranger 350V - Mercury 150
    2010 Ranger Z521 - Mercury 250
    2012 Ranger Z518 - Mercury 200
    2015 Ranger Z521C - Mercury 250 ProXS
    1993 Ranger 481V - Mercury 175 ProXS (25th Anniversary)
    2018 Ranger Z519 - Mercury 225 ProXS (50th Anniversary)

From what i can see on the specs of the power poles and talons, the 10' of each would have a difference of about 10-15lbs with duals. To me it seems like either one would affect my holeshot...That video looks like yours jumped up pretty quick though! was that top speed?

No, that's a small lake with not much room. They add quite a bit of weight, don't forget all the brackets to hold them too.

Here's a top speed video...70-71mph was about it.

hate to tell you 10 foot talon setup ..126.19 lbs on the transom ( fact) 10 foot Powerpole setup with braced brackets 80.9 pounds on the transom( fact).. thats a 46 lb on the transom difference comparing apples to apples. Im not bashing talons, just stating the facts. Not sure where you came up with the 10 to 15lb difference.

That weight difference is for just bare poles and Talons themselves. Listed right on Minn Kota and Power Pole's website. No I did not add in the weight of the brackets or pumps so I'm sure you are correct.
