HELIX 9 G2N Shuts off when you hit a wave

This unit shuts off when the boat takes a decent thump, fires right back up when you press the power button. Seems to be getting more common. Anyone have this issue? Front unit doesn't do it so i don't think its a battery connection issue.

Suppose it's the cable collector not fully attached?

I had the same issue once, replaced the collector and it solved the problem.
I looked closely at the old one and didn't see anything cracked or worn so it doesn't take much.
Be sure the collector doesn't touch anything or isn't close to anything solid. During bumpy rides things move and shake more than you realize.

Tweaker, when you say collector, I’m assuming you mean connector?

Yes, the collector is the assembly that holds the various cables and clips into the back of the unit.

Cable connector tray is what the HB shop calls it.

Cable Collector was the official term for many years.

Its definatley loosing power due to a bad connection or bad wire someplace between the unit and it's power source. Try powering the unit up and do a (shake & jiggle) of the wires, starting at the unit and work your way back.
A little dab of dielectric grease on the connection pins along with a few extra zip ties so the wires wont bounce may fix it..

I had this happen on my dash unit, it was not snapped in on both sides.

Also check the back of the unit where the cable connector/collector tray thingy snaps in, there were some that the ears on the back of unit broke off and the cable connector/collector tray thingy would not snap in properly.

Remove the cable collector from the back of the unit, open it up and check the power cable to be sure it is routed correctly and "all the way in". Had to mess with mine once when it kept shutting down. Once I re-adjusted the power cable inside the collector it has been working fine. I liked the older style collectors on my 998s much better.

Now I'm curious how you keep the plugs connected without the tray?

I seen a guy on YouTube take some white thread tape on the power leads on the unit. Just enough but not to much to keep connection nice and tight. Going to do it to mine when I set mine up!

I'm still trying to visualize how this person is using
white thread tape on the power leads on the unit.
