    Question Crimp on spade connectors

What color for 12 awg wire? Is there something better than crimp for spade connector?
    Thanks for help.

Yellow is 10-12AWG , but they reuse the colors for much smaller and much larger wire sizes.

    A solder-seal type connector is better http://www.wiringdepot.com/store/p/4...Terminals.aspx
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

This is a quick reference for marine wiring from West Marine. I find it helpful. Bob

I like these with a short piece of marine shrink tube to cover where the wire enters. Nothing exposed !
    Normally can find them local.

When ever I have to use a crimp on connector I will use solder and shrink tubing verses just crimping.

That Blue Sea System Circuit Wizard App listed at the bottom of that article is pure gold. Thanks for the link!

I use Deutsch or Ampseal 16 on all new connections and old connections. Also look at adhesive lined shrink tubing around all your terminations. I had no idea how much moisture can wick up inside a wire.

Another good reason for Marine grade wire.

I will go to great lengths to avoid blade connectors for marine use, just to many problems with voltage drops. Sometimes there just is no other option. If you feel you must use them, use seamless non insulted ones with a high quality crimper. After crimping push the connector onto blade it is intended for then slide a the piece of sealing shrink that you have previously placed on the wire over the whole connector including the blade and shrink it this will keep the connection from failing much longer. Yea, it will be difficult to pull off. Be sure the female connector fits tight when pushed on. A tiny bit of stabilent 22 will further improve the connection. Liquid tape will work in a pinch, just coat everything

Besides soldering I will use Dielectric grease on all connections.

Per LeonPugh, a quality crimping tool is essential. There are also good and poor quality terminal ends. If the connection is critical, it is not unlikely that I would use Liquid Electric Tape and heat shrink over it while it is still wet AFTER a pull test.

I would not either, was assuming it would be dry at this point. The reason for sealing as I mentioned it to assure against no moisture intrusion in the blade contacts as this is a problem with them
