    Question Crimp on spade connectors

What color for 12 awg wire? Is there something better than crimp for spade connectors?
    Help appreciated.

    Yellow. Solder is better.

Yellow marine grade with the built in heat shrink. Oh, and a proper set of crimpers.

awg 12 use yellow. Type of connection varies, but for trailer use go with a crimp. A solder connection is better for some applications, but unless done properly it can be more of a problem than benefit. And as mentioned, a proper set of crimpers is required.

That will all be very nice, but you still end up with an exposed piece of metal connected to another piece of exposed metal, unless you all are talking about some kind of spade connector I have never seen.

At some point you have to connect to power, whether it’s at the battery, a fuse block or terminal block. Spade or ring connectors are about the only option other than wrapping wire around the screw.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

Pretty much the same thing I am saying. I just question the need for double layer of shrink tubing on a connector that is also totally exposed.

Liquid electrical tape can be your friend.. A little dab can seal most any connection.

If you do not intend to hook up and unhook the finished connection, paint the whole assembled thing with Liquid Electric Tape, cover that with heat shrink and shrink it down while still wet. Some liquid should squeeze out of each end, but it should be water tight. Forever.
