"Chasing The Beast"-story of the 25lb largemouth caught in 2006.......

Field & Stream and made this story from their 2006 magazine avaiable to read online. It is a great recount involving all who knew and fished for this bass so long and hard on California's Lake Dixon. Really amazing on how it all turned out. It also projects a look at what might happen this day and time if George Washington Perry would catch his world record nowadays. If you have never read it i think you will find it interesting on how it all turned how.

Largest she weighed was #25.1 I believe. If she wasn’t hooked outside the mouth she would’ve smashed the record. I think that single fish holds 2 or 3 spots on the world record list

Read the book "Sowbelly" by Monte Burke. Talks all about it and several other people that chased the record. Great book for a bass fisherman to read.

I believe Mike Long started it when he caught Dottie at 21lbs. She was caught a couple times there after. Jed Dickerson nailed her at her greatest weight, then later on down the road, Jed got the phone call to come identify if it was her floating. She was gone. Great story though.

For some reason I always thought she was hooked just outside the mouth and that added to the drama. I didn’t realize she was legitimately snagged in the back, albeit unintentionally. Very well written article.
