How to dry a wet carpet tip

Fished in the RAIN last Sat and had to do a 'Dry Out" that took four days !!
Sun, I Sucked up as much as I could with the Shop Vac. About 4-5 GALLONS !! I let that Air Out over night.
Mon, I covered it with some old bath towels. Lay them out SMOOTH over the carpet. They will soak up most of the rest of the water that way.
Tues, left the towels another day
Wed, removed the towels, they were pretty wet, but the carpet was about 95% dry now. Let it air out again,
    Thurs, all dry !!

I've been doing it like this for over 30 yrs and it seems to do the trick without using any heaters or fans. I store my boat in a metal garage, so if you store it outside this won't work for you.

Sun and wind (fans) seems like it would be faster to me....the towels just hold moisture on the carpet

wet vac, or i spray carpet cleaner all over the place and use the "little green machine" a small wet vac spot remover. It works great for me, it still takes another day or two to totally dry

I'll vac up any standing water first. Then put the cover on loosely, not strapped down, and stick a big ass fan on the rear deck blowing forward. Makes the cover bubble up, lots of turbulent air under there. Let it run for a day or two and everything is bone dry.

This is done in a climate controlled garage kept at around 68F.

shop vac--- floor jack with a 14" piece of 6x6 to increase the height, jack the bow up letting all the water drain out the plug hole. Next day sit it out in the sun.

Glad the towels work for you. I'll stick with evaporation method: open all lids and running a fan to move air and dry out the carpet in a day or two.
Having the towel on top of the wet carpet, holding in the moisture in a warm, dark storage spot would turn into a giant mold experiment in my garage!

I have a big ass fan. I suck the water out of it with my Bissell and then I put the Big fan on the front deck and aim it down a little bit. 24 hours later, dry as a bone

Take a lot of snaps to hold it down on some boats. Even then if the wind got under the front deck carpet about 90

Yeah, you'd think it would, but, first I don't leave it for long and second, they really do suck up the water and leave the carpet 95% dry !! I've never had a Mold issue. I also open each locker, turn the lock handle to LOCK, then shut the lid leaving it to rest on the lever and allowing air to flow thru the locker. On rainy days I lay a towel over my rods/baits to keep the rain out when opening the locker and avoiding a wet locker.

The older I get, I think I like boats that have no carpet. Like the decks on Bay Boats.

    Riccochet —- rain?

If it wasn’t so dark Iwould snap a picture outside. All of our rain is in the white form. Right now we are having a small blizzard. I have 3 ft of snow in the yard now.

    All good tips and responses.

I heard years ago to use a scrub brush against carpet grain, raising the carpet to speed drying. I do this and seems to help.

The shop-vac and the using an overhead fans and a squirrel-cage type blower works good for me. We get tons of rain down here so it’s inevitable that you’re going to get wet sooner or later. Since June we have had rain at least every 3-4 days.
