    New boat deposit

When ordering a new boat from a dealer that has to be built (not in inventory), how much of a deposit should the buyer be expected to put down to start the process?

When I ordered my 520c I put down $10,000.00. It comes off the top so not a big deal to me.

Typically a 10% earnest money deposit is required.

10% seems like a lot of coin, especially if the build gets delayed and delayed (which can happen).

When I shopped they were all almost typically 10% which is typically the amount of down payment needed for banks to loan as well.

I've never had to put a monetary deposit down, guess my trade in was good enough. I did keep the boat I was trading in however, until the new boat was delivered.

I just had a 2019 Skeeter ZX250 built. My dealer did not ask for a deposit.

I guess its all in what they figure might hurt you if you were to back out. If its a boat they can sell quick is another factor. If youre financing it they cant really expect you to come up with $10k for a deposit. $500 seems pretty standard- thats what i just did 2 weeks ago

I would say as long as you're not going with a wild color scheme $500 should do... Dan

Think it really depends on the dealer. I’ve been told $500, $5,000 was fine, $10,000 and some stated 10% or upto $15,000
