    184 Transom Replacement

So I attempted to hog out the transom in my garage and things didn’t go very favorably. I have a shop quoting me 2-2500$ on a no frills transom with black gel only. Does anyone know if a transom job usually includes the through hull area?

Im sure there's an additional parts cost to install them and a little bit of labor if you have already taken them out .

I guess I mean replacing the wood there if needed.

Not to be an ass, but, if a shop quoted me no frills to do a job. I'd ask in writing what is included with the no frills job. Or , at the very least, let them know what you expect, or want in a transom job and their price.

Had my '99 203 done last year for right at $2000 including de-rigging and re-rigging the motor. He matched the metal flake for that price as well. Did not have to break through the inner "skin" of fiberglass in the bilge area at all and did not have to do anything where the through hull fittings are. He replaced tie down rings and top aluminum strip. My 203 does NOT have the splash well in front of the jackplate/outboard FYI. He told me because of that it was a substantially quicker project.

Good to know! That’s extremely cheap. Been working with my guy on the plan. I’ll post my updates here.

Nope we’re glassing in a new wood one. Just got to keep it sealed!

That price sounds good... i don't understand what a "frill" is in a transom replacement :)

I just poured Arjay 6011 yesterday in my 1990 184 transom. I actually went the long route and cut the outside skin only to realize I needed to cut the inside and also inspect some possible rot in the stringers. Long story short I know have a WAY beefier transom. I did the math and a ton of research... Coosa would of been my preferred method but there were a couple obstacles that made me just go for Arjay. Surprisingly cost effective at $300 for 10 gallons and way less hassle. Hopefully it was worth it.

Paint matching! I’m just getting black gel butted up to the dark blue.
