    Anybody still fish Sliders?

I'm going back in time, these were real hot around here in the 80s and all the big tourney guys used them. Then the Zoom finesse worm took over but a lot still say the Sliders are better. I have quite a few of the 5in, but thinking of going back to the 4in. Lots of fishing pressure around here and come July/August the bite gets tough on the tidal water.

What setup? I remember the 5ft, yellow Slider rods back in the day. I think I need a dedicated setup, like a 6ft ML rod for these worms. I fish them on a 6-10 M rod with 8lb test and just think it overpowers the bait.

I have a couple of the
    4' 10"
Skyline graphite models. I prefer the Spider Slider heads, less hang-ups in cover.
I did use 6# mono and in recent years, use 20# superline. Caught several hundred bass last year with the 4" Slider worms.

I just found like 10 packs the other day as I was organizing tackle. Haven't used them in years but they sure did catch fish. I still use the slider heads with Yamamoto shad shaped worms. That is a deadly combo right there. I use a old st croix 6'4" med lt with 6lb mono or braid to 7lb sunline fc depending on clarity.

Lot of people fish them and just don't know it. They call it NED rig now.

No it's not a ned rig...it's a slider...it's always been a slider and will always be a slider...and they don't work...no sense in throwing em..

Funny how many lures always caught them on and just put them away. Sliders caught em back then and will still catch em now .

I don't know if you are talking about Charlie Brewer or not but if so THE SLIDERS AND WORMS DO NOT CATCH FISH. A moderator should just shut this thread down right now. Especially if anyone mentions a black 5" worm with a chartreuse tail, fished on a 6' 6" spinning rod (ML) with 6 lb mono!

Nope never used them to win many tournaments. Don't tell anyone and by the way they won't believe you anyways.

You can still buy the 4'10" rods at Slider.com in graphite. Tennessee handle model is the best.

I think they’ve faded, because the fact is in most of the country it’s just takes bigger stringers to win nowadays than it used to.

I mean if I know I need to 20lbs to have a chance to win, then I’m not sure that bait is even on my radar. Not that you can’t catch a big one on it, but be tough to catch 5 big ones in a day on it.

Now if you’re just fishing, yeah it will catch em as well as it used to

How many people here have never caught big SM on it or never won tournaments with SM on just, don't really want to know but thought I'd ask.

I’ve never thrown it in the 30 years I’ve fished, so I guess you can put me in that category. Lol. Of course the only time I catch smallmouth is when I go to st Clair. Just really don’t have many around here. Few random ones is all.

There is a guy here that wins a lot of big tournaments on the James River. He swears by the 1/8oz slider head for fishing finesse worms. I think he still used mono as well.
