SS Transducer on step or supplied skimmer bracket and why???

Getting ready to install my 2 in 1 transducer on my '14 Z520c in place of my LSS-2 factory mounted on the step. I have heard from a couple of installers that it is MUCH better to mount it above the drain plug with the supplied skimmer bracket to help reduce interference from turbulence. Seems to me that the difference is only about 6-8 inches and I really don't see the benefit of drilling additional holes in my hull!! Seeking opinions from BBC'ers on how theirs is mounted and why??

    Thanks, John

I mounted mine to the bottom of the jackplate on the holeshot plate so that when I changed out technology over the years I wouldn't have to keep drilling holes in the fiberglass as they changed the transducers. The turbulence hasn't been an issue and this gives you a little more adjust-ability with the transducer angle relative to the water compared to the step.
