I ran an old school 225 Promax (not the X model) with a sporty on my first XB21 2+2 and it was awesome. Killer hole shot and mid range since I ran 27/28P props with a max RPM range around 6800+. conservative engine height at even with the pad ran 87.7 solo with full load

There was an owner with a Prosport running a 225X at the time a bit faster but he was not able to hole shot the same props as me I guess cuz of the way that motor relieved the exhaust.

I’m in the it will run just fine camp. My 200efi ran 84 was quick. With the addition setup Knowledge gained the last couple years, it could have been even better. High 80s should be easy and quick...

I ran a 2+2 with a 2005 2.5 XS Optimax (225hp 1.87 gears 6800 limiter) loaded it ran 86.9. I always heard the 225X was a little stronger than the Optimax.

X was a right with or a touch better than a 225 promax

I got the x home but don't know when I will get time to mess with it. Still torn whether I won't to try it on the big ally or not. I think it might be a fun combo.

Who knows? I really didn't have a end goal when I bought it just thought it was a neat little engine so I bought it.
It is a much better fit for the 2002 but I know I would miss the 260. I may just use it when I have to pull the 260 down for repairs. Which happens allot

That's pretty good. If I put this thing on there and it runs mid 80s loaded I may not take it back off.

What prop where you running?

28 Bravo XS. If I had it to do over again I would probably test a 27 Promax and maybe a 28 Promax. Both would be faster than the Bravo XS.

Yes it's a short shaft. I didn't even know mercury made the 225x in a short shaft but they sure did. It's all original
