Group trip week of May 11

Our group just booked lodging May 9-12 this year. Looks like 10-12 boats. We plan on using the Harley Ensign Ramp. Last year Sportsmans direct were very helpful with info and baits to use.. Since this seems like a more severe winter. What do you guys think the fish will be doing then. Bedding, Pre Spawn Post Spawn. Hoping to get some Walleye from the river to take home to.

    Thanks

    WG

Start with what worked last year that time. Adjust as needed.

You mention walleye, but isn't bass season still closed at that time of the year? I left Michigan in 1998 and it wasn't legal to even fish for bass before memorial weekend.

Last year some guys were getting a ton of walleye in the lake at that time while casting for smallmouth. You might not even need to hit one of the rivers.

Last year during that weekend it was prespawn, year before the smallies were on beds, 3 years ago starting to bed. Depends on what weather does in April.

We have a group of people from another site that have a paper tourney that weekend every year for fun. We will be there the 11th.

Catch and release is now legal all year long. Catch and keep is the same as it has always been.

We know all the rules this is our annual trip. Keep seeing ice reports of the SC River being jammed with ice. Hopefully it will be an early spring. Either way we always have fun.
