    Under Lid LED Light

I am wanting to put a LED light under a deck lid. I want a stand alone battery unit that will turn off by itself after a given time.(Don't want to hard wire anything) I have found some that are motion activated that will stay on 15-20 seconds once no motion is detected.

Does any one know of any that are on a timer? Once turned on, it will turn off after a certain amount of time? What are other options?

It says they turn off after 12-18 seconds of not detecting motion. I got a bunch of lights just like those at Big Lots and put them under out kitchen cabinets and they work well. They also have a light that looks exactly like a light switch but is held in with double sided tape. I liked those and put a couple in the boat. They work great and since the motion sensor is another thing to break I went with the switches. They put out lots of light and are cheap.

The middle one would be perfect for rod lockers.

It all depends on if you’re willing to admit your boat is well lit from Big Lots and change batteries once a year!

Since I have an 18’ aluminum boat I was looking for the most cost effective and practical way to go, sometimes cheap isn’t bad.

Casslaw, these sound great. Do you have a picture of where you placed them in your boat?

I can take pics next time I uncover my boat which would be later this week.

My boat isn’t very large so I don’t need many lights. In the compartment on the front deck I out one on the lid (it sits against my leaning post when open and lights up the whole area at night) and one against the wall just inside the compartment which lights up the entire front inside of the boat. In the rod locker I put one on the inside wall half way forward, and it lights up the entire rod locker. I also put one inside the small compartment in front of my windshield. That’s where I keep clothes, my wallet, bug spray, etc so I need to see in there at night. I mounted all of them with double sided tape and they’ve held up really well for the last 6 months.

After just ordering a new z519 I questioned the value of the zpack which includes compartment lighting as part of the up sell package. I always thought that was ridiculous as I could light might rod locker with something like this at less than $10.

Also the most expensive part of the zpack bundle is the cover which is typically given free as part of a promotion. My opinion is to always pass on this unless you just have to have it wired in...and if so just know you are paying a significant premium for that.
