Lowrance Hook2 12 sonar freezing up

I have a Hook 2 sonar and its acting up. The sonar chart is freezing up. It freezes up and then works again after a while.
When Im using the split screen the gps works ok, but the sonar freezes up. I have sent it to Lowrance and they tested and said it was working fine and they sent a new transducer for it. I tested with the new splitshot transducer and it still had the same problem. I sent the unit back and upgraded for a Hook 2 12 but it still having the same problems like the other one. Any ideas of what could be wrong with it ????
I gotta run a wire from the 12 volt battery at the back of my boat to the front to hook up the sonar . What gauge wire do you recommend?
