    Wanting new sonar, side image

I'm behind the times on sonar. I've been using hds 5 for years.
I'm wanting more now that I fish deeper clear water.
Thinking hds7 with lss2 but this is still older tec.
What is the going thing to do ?
Money is important so not looking to compete with the pros.

I would go with a 9" screen if you want to do side imaging or do split screens at all with map split with 2d sonar or side imaging split with down imaging. With that being said I would go with a Lowrance HDS 9 Gen 2 touch with the LSS-2 transducer. I had them for a few years and was real happy with that set up.

I would suggest a 9 as well. I currently run an hds gen3 9 on dash, and hds 8 gen 1 on the bow. Have them linked together so i can see everything the lss2 has connected to my 9. You can shop the for sale section here and find good deals. I bought my lss2 for 125. My gen 3 9 for 825. The 8 was already on the boat. Im looking to upgrade my bow unit sooner than later. But like you i came from an elite 5di. So its all a major upgrade. If you shop smart you can get nice unit and ducer for good prices. Budget is always an issue, but if you take your time and keep your eyes open you will find a deal.

9 inch....Humminbird Mega Imaging. Its the best side imaging that I've seen. Easy to use and navigate through the modes.

Call your local BPS or Cabela's to see if they have any still in stock. If not they can get one from another store.

If you can squeeze for that much there are a few new HDS Carbon 12s still available with the Totalscan transducer if you look for them online.

There's nothing like large high resolution screen real estate. With the latest Carbon 18.3 software update the side-scan reach and detail is amazing and FishReveal on downscan is big help.
