No surprise here. It’s going to be as good of a fishery as Hartwell before long and also Lanier because of those blueback herring and the shad population doing so well. Spotted bass are awesome and it’s great to see that fishery develop in to what so many people believed it could so many years ago. It was not that long ago that 12 pounds was a good sack ...Now look at what’s coming out of there!!!

It's the best overall fishery in the state. I've been saying it for a few years. But as always, tournament weights do not tell the story on how good a fishery is.

That is a broad statement on it being the best overall lake in the state. I do not think that weight would get you a win in the top 5 lakes in the state this time of the year.

It’s not as good as it was a few years ago before they put the hybrids in. The time when they quit stocking strippers and before they stocked the hybrids was when it was the best. Still a heck of a lot better than it was 10 years ago.

Again, tournament weights do not dictate how great a fishery really is. I can go to lake Reese and get five bites that weigh 22 pounds but it's still one of the worst fisheries I've ever put my boat in. But that is just my opinion. I have fished just about every like in the state and in my opinion it is far more unique than any other fishery. And when I say fishery I don't just mean Bass. I didn't say it was the best largemouth fishery in the state although it is still full of them contrary to popular belief

It is very similar to lake Hartwell what's makes me very happy because I love lake Hartwell. I remember when it absolutely sucked, which was before the spots got put in it. The blue bikes have changed it a little bit and the hybrids have taken out a lot of the shed but there is still a healthy population of threadfin. it's much better to fish a lake that has less bait in it then far too much in it. A lot of our lakes in the Piedmont are so full of bait the fish don't have to move very far to feed which makes it tough.

It is all in the eyes of the beholder. If it looks #1 to you then, have at it. Opinions vary on every thing but i have fished there along with a few others and my opinion of Norman is different. Glad you like it.

Man don't I know that, I fish Santee now and it's TOUGH for that simple reason; a TON and I mean A TON of bait is in that lake system. Pair that with no spots or small mouth and FL strain largemouth and you have some sluggish lazy fish (big ones but lazy) and it's been a massive adjustment for me as I like to fish fast and that doesn't fly there (at least until it warms up some). Dragging a C Rig and a worm around in deep water vs deep cranking and jerk bait fishing which I'd be doing every day on Norman this time of year is a big difference. This is the time of year when Norman shines and she's shining bright from all I can see. Enjoy fellas!

Getting bit is pretty easy on Norman, catching good ones is another story. There are what I call the Norman specialist that only fish Norman and then there are guys like myself that only fish there when their club tourney is there. The specialist guys catch some good bags (12-18 lbs) the nonregulars typically catch 7-12 lbs. I live 20 min away but will drive an hr to a Yadkin lake ever chance I get.

A few good bags does not make a great lake. Norman is so so in my opinion. Much rather go to High Rock or Badin
I don't always find schooling fish but when I do I backlash on the first cast

A lot of teams did throw back their catches..happens at every tourney....right now Santee Cooper and Lake Murray are by far the hot lakes in the Carolinas...they in a league of their own...Santee can't be touched

Norman is a very good lake and is full of fish. I've spent as much time there as I have anywhere else in the last few years. I've never been able to put it together there in the late winter/very early spring. All you have to do is look at my CBC and BFL finishes to see what I am talking about. They have really caught them in the last two CBC's and the February BFL last year. I'm sure someone will catch them good this Saturday too. It may not kick out the 20 pd bags like some of the other lakes do....but it's not because they're not in there. If you ever go there in Late March and April you'll see what I'm talking about. But it does fish diffrent than anywhere I've ever been and it does make me mad from time to time. We're all very fortunate to have so many lakes to chose from and they all have their times when they out produce the other lakes.
