    Agm charging

I currently have a pro sport 3 bank 15 amp charger. Is that enough amps for charging agm batteries? It says for use for agm and wet cell. Just not sure if the amps are high enough. Thanks for any advice.

Depends on what AGM you are talking about. 15A is too much for Optimas. Voltage is the area of most concern for AGMs

What if "3 bank 15 amp charger" means, 5 amps per bank?

I believe it is 5 amps per bank.

5 amps will never fully charge a AGM battery

My 6 amp per bank charges my AGM's in about 4-5 hours.

Really depends on how low you run the batteries down. I can troll all day and it still only takes 4-5 hours.

I’m running duel pro 15,15,15 on three AGMs. After a full day of tournament fishing they are all fully charged in 2 to 3 hours.

Any charger will charge a battery (assuming the charge profile is fine for an AGM...most chargers made in the last 15 years are good to go), the question is how long it will take. A 15 amp per bank charger will, not surprisingly, charge 3 times faster than 5 amps per bank.

If you had a 100 ah battery run completely dead (not likely and if so it might not come back, but bear with me), it would take the 5 amp charger 20 hours to charge it, and the 15 amp charger 6 hours and 40 minutes to charge it.

    It's not rocket surgery!

I think you are under the incorrect assumption that the 15 amp charger will charge at 15 amps for five hours, It wont. As voltage rises it will keep reducing the current flow to reduce overheating and gassing. After about 50 to 75 percent state of charge the 5 and the 15 will be close to the same charge rate. An AGM will charge faster because of its design.
As Cat fan mentioned some AGMs will be damaged at a 15 amp charge rate if more than a few minutes Primarily Optimas

My last Optima AGM was still good after 8 years charging with a Dual Pro 15A per bank 3 bank charger. My current Optima D31M is still strong after 3 years using the same charger. I don't know what that means other than it has worked for me so I am passing it on. When it comes time to replace it I have been looking at the Group 31 AGM Duracell because it is less expensive and American made.

Very rarely will a 15 amp charger actually reach 15 amps for more than a few minutes if at all due to many variables. In the past when I used nothing but optima batteries I used 15 amp per bank chargers on them with no issues, Never had a Optima fail on me

My charger, a 2006 model Ranger 4 bank charger, would only charge an AGM to ~90%. It being an older model charger didn’t have the “delta profile” that all modern chargers have. The battery would crank the the motor a few times and power the accessories for a little while but then I would get the low voltage beep from the motor. Upgraded to a new Dual Pro and problem solved.

Dual Pro factory rep told me my 15 amp per , 3 bank charger would be find for AGM's. Emailed Optimia and inquired would that harm the battery, answer was no.

I recommend that you consider following the recommended charging from your battery manufacturer. For example, if you have an Odyssey battery, you might start here on page 13:
