Seems a lot of the ones riding in groups fall into one of two categories: can't think for themselves and just accept whatever speed the car in front of them or beside them is traveling, or they're too busy being distracted with food/makeup/reading/texting/changing clothes or anything other than *driving*.

If anybody here remembers Tom McCayhill, automotive writer and tester, some of his basic tenets were always be aware of your surroundings and have a mental plan on where you could steer to if the road conditions changed suddenly.
In the days before seat belts he advocated hitting the "cellar' if your car rolled or was going to be involved in a massive accident. That meant diving to the floor once you couldn't do anything to keep the vehicle safe.

They just started posting this here in Texas on the electronic information signs (amber alert signs), "Camp out in a state park, not the left lane. Left lane is for passing only." We have had the "left lane is for passing only" signs for several years now but most dont abide by them. I'm glad Txdot is stepping up, maybe some sarcasm will get their attention.
