How to Replace the Plastic Sleeve on an Ultrex

How hard is it to replace the plastic covering on the cables for the Ultrex? Mine is cracked and was wondering if it is difficult or not to replace. I believe you have to take all of the cables and wires from the foot pedal and slide the old one off and install the new one. My motor is under warranty but taking the unit to service center is a PITA. Is there a write up anywhere to give notice on how to do this?

Since you're still under warranty and will be dealing with the footpedal/control board / steering cables / wiring going to the coil cord, etc. -- I would suggest you taking it in to an ASC. Although it is not considered a warranty repair, you are dealing with items that would be considered as warrant-able. To answer your question, the steering cables must be disconnect at the steering module and at the footpedal, then removed. All the wiring at the footpedal disconnected including the grommets at the footpedal With this done the old jacket can removed. It is easier if you cut the jacket in sections where it is broke and slide if off in sections. Then tape a fish rod to the wireing and fish through the new jacket. Once that is in place, re insert the steering cables and reattach everthing.

Has minn Kota resolved the problem of these pieces cracking by possibly changing plastic materials or something? It seems like it’s happenend to more than a few people including me I noticed right when my motor came out of the box..

No, they are still using the same material. It is the same that is on all their footcontrolled cable steer trolling motors.

I purchase a split braided loom from cable ties and more. It has a Velcro closure and looks really nice.

How is this holding up? Also, did you do away with the stock sleeve? Do you have a link for the one in the pic? Thanks!

I believe the one I used is the grip wrap.
So far it's holding up well and has not faded as some wraps are prone to do.
Yes I removed the stock sleeve.
