    Question Intermittent Clacking sound with power loss

    1998 merc 225 carb 0G607475

    So I have a intermittent clacking sound with power loss when under load(like getting on plain). Where to begin?

    Determine where noise is coming from...lower unit or powerhead.

    Lower unit oil was just changed and when this started happening was the next time out.i pulled the plug and didn’t find anything suspicious.checked compression and looked at top of pistons.having a hard time figuring out because it only does it when driving

    Only when in FORWARD, or does it do it in both Forward and Reverse?

    Have you inspected the Prop Hub for damage?
