    Slow 193

2003 193 with 2006 merc optimax. 25 pitch plus tempest . Only able to get 61 mph@5200 rpms. Just got boat. Water was 52 and air 48. 3.5 under pad. New plugs. 8 inch setback. Think I should be able to turn the prop more rpm and hit mid 60's. Gas tank 3/4 full and just me in the boat. What do y'all think?

Not horrible, might need a 24” prop.

Yes, sometimes a smaller prop gives more speed...

I think his motor is either a 5500 rpm or a 5750 rpm, I can’t keep track of them all.

Hot foot ok. Motor max is 5750. Haven't had a chance to check much else. Just wondering what most other people are running with this rig. Guy I bought it from said it would run upper 60's. I'm not even close to that

I don’t think you’ll see upper 60’s on gps. You need to run a smaller prop first and make sure you rpm gauge is correct. (This is assuming you are trimming up) 500 more rpms should get you 2-3 mph. There could also be things like delaminated fuel lines, plugged filters.

scroll down this list and compare. You’ll read everything from 61-77.

    Errr....
Make sure first you don't have a plug wire pulled out. Really easy to do when you put the cowling back on that motor.

I checked that also Pat. I'm trying to get an idea of what this model should run. I need to get the motor checked out yet.

My opinion only, that setup should see 66-68 MPH. Your RPMs are pretty low. You've gotten good advice here. I'd check the throttle position to make sure it's getting to WFO. Also check the fuel lines and have that prop checked to make sure someone didn't cup the hell out of it.

Thanks. That's what i was looking for. Hotfoot adjustment good. Feel like I'm leaving 4-500 rpm on the table somewhere. I'll get it to the mechanic

That's the symptom of running on five. You can't tell with the opti when it's idling.

My Bud ran that same 2003 193, 200 Opti, 25 Tempest +. Would run 65mph GPS all day every day...… 52 degree water, and 48 air temp, pushing 67-67+mph

Mine has a Yamaha which is different animal I know but with 2 people, loaded with tackle,2 ten foot power poles, half tank of fuel,on a run last fall it ran 69 mph for a couple miles. Still had a tick left. 200 hp with a 25 T-1 at 2.5 under pad. I would think 65 plus is a good number if running on all cylinders. T-1 is a large diameter prop. Don't think you can run a Tempest that high. Also I have a 10" jack plate. Before poles my best run was 74.3 mph. With prop I am running now it is only a couple mph slower. Think poles slowed it down about 3 mph.

Thanks. I also have a 2004 193 with a 2004 Yamaha I haven't been able to take out yet. It has a 25 Yamaha prop pretty banged up. I have a 25 fury I'm gonna throw on it when I get a chance. Sent the 2003 up to Michigan with my buddy. He's gonna get it to the mechanic

Opti’s are notorious for coil packs failing. Should be a mid 60’s boat when you got her dialed in.
