How to best ventilate when pouring lead?

What’s the best way to ventilate an area if pouring lead from a lead pot or is it necessary?

Of course it depends on how much/how often you pour. Better to be safe than sorry. Simple $20 box fan does the job.

I pour outside and prefer a breeze if possible. I am debating setting up a hood style ventilation system in the tackle room but honestly I only pour a few times a year so outside works best for me.

I only pour inside my house... Basement. I pour and paint in a spray booth that is vented out of a basement window.

This will just be in my old detached garage where I plan to setup a bait/rod making station overtime.

Tackle Underground has a sticky dedicated to lead safety and whatnot. Good Info there.

Safety is more of a concern than ventilation. Don't eat or smoke while pouring and wash your hands after handling lead.

This^^^!!!! A simple fan blowing in the direction of a cracked window will create good enough ventilation but it depends on the lead you have. If you are using scrap lead then you will need a lot of ventilation as the impurities will create some nasty fumes. Clean lead will not vaporize and become airborne until it is over 1000 degrees and most pots don't get past 900 turned all the way up so there is little risk of breathing in lead fumes. Most lead poisoning is from ingestion, like Jig Man said, don't smoke or eat while pouring and wash your hands really good afterward and you'll be fine.

As much as I agree with above, You can eliminate any chance of toxic smoke/fumes in your house with venting outside. A box fan is not an option in my world. Not chancing it with my family and dog.

That's my goal to build a booth for the top of my bench to vent outside. I think you or someone posted plans on here from another site that I'm hoping to do this year.
