    ULTREX

Do you guys with an Ultrex using it more via foot pedal or via remote. My bay boat does not have the provision for a recessed foot pedal. I’m questioning weather to screw the pedal to the deck or not. On this boat I can actually stow the pedal assembly inside the anchor locker. Therefore using the remote exclusively at that time. So how much pedal use versus remote use?

Personally, I think I’ve used the remote twice. You do need it for the jog feature. IMO, when using the remote, the TM acts no different than a Terrova. Turning speed is about the same with the remote is what I mean.

If I were you, I’d save some money and just buy the Terrova with I-pilot (or I-Pilot link) as you would have a flat, detachable pedal that can be stowed easily and all of the benefits that i-Pilot offers.

What makes the ultrex so popular for bass guys is that the turning speed is the same, if not better than that of a fortrex. Once you moved passed that, all of the I-pilot features found on the Terrova and Ulterra are the same as those found on the ultrex. If you aren’t planning on using the pedal, there is no point in getting an ultrex.

I screwed my pedal to the deck on my previous boat (Tracker 175) and only used the remote to initialize the Ultrex. I have not used it since. I do keep it handy in case of a foot pedal issue. My new boat I have to wait until I get it to see the front deck layout.

I guess I’ll just have to learn how to balance my fat *ss on one foot. Change is hard.

I've used the pedal once or twice, so I'm almost exclusively remote.

Try mounting the foot pedal to a carpeted piece of plywood. The added weight of the carpeted plywood will keep it from bouncing around... Was a trick the go fast boat use it use back before recessed foot pedals... Dan

I use my remote when passing under some low clearance bridges and viaducts.
Just sit in the drivers seat and steer with remote. Just remember to keep it charged if you have Ultrex...

Trolling lakes bass fishing I'm turning the TM constantly. Not sure how guys are using the hand remote and fishing at the same time. Hanging the remote around your neck with the supplied lanyard would get in the way whenever leaning over the gunwale to lip a fish. Besides, that thing is heavy and bulky but I know there is a micro version. May be just me but I prefer to control the TM with my foot and leave my hands free to fish.

Yeah I’m surprised to see people put it around their neck. I do use the belt carabiner though. If I’m fishing offshore off the back of the boat I’ll use the remote to jog to a new spot. Also, sometimes I’ll step away from the pedal while fighting a fish, or to re-tie without hitting spotlock. In those cases I can do it without returning to the pedal.

I hang it around my neck and then put the remote in my shirt pocket. It's out of the way and I don't have the extra weight hanging on my neck. I maybe only use the remote like 20% of the time

I've had both the ultrex and ulterra. When I ordered my new boat, I changed to the ultrex because I prefer cable steering. I'd say that if you plan to use the remote you would be happier with the ulterra; get the advantage of the auto stow/deploy and power trim.
It's what you learn AFTER you know it all that counts...

I only use the remote the few times i walleye fish. It’s a great TM. I was in the bow of my brother’s boat running his electric minnkota TM. It’s way to slow. The Ultrex is great for casting out of the bow.

Remote 100% of the time. I HATE the pedal and the space it takes up. I always fished with a Powerdrive then Terrova. I'd have a Ulterra now if would've fit on the bow but the overhang killed it for me.
If I were in your shoes, I'd get the Ulterra..
