Question Crankbait gurus step inside ...

Who makes a dedicated cranking rod for smaller/lighter crankbaits, preferably a glass or at least composite blend that can handle roughly 1/4 oz to max 1/2 oz ? Does such an animal exist ?

Dobyns makes some of the best crank rods
out there. And they also have one of the
    best warranty’s
    look at the 704cb
that rod and a 705cb will throw 80-90
    of all the cranks

My favorite cranking rod for smaller cranks is my St Croix Avid cranking rod. It’s a graphite rod but has a glass action. I like being able to feel the weeds and can feel the fish push behind the bait. It is a shorter rod at 6’6” but I can cast a 100 series Bandit pretty far.

I have an older St. Croix Premier (6'6" medium action) which I believe is graphite but for cranks between 1/4 and 3/8, it's fantastic. It will do 1/2 but that would be a little on the heavy side. If these are still available is a great rod for right at the $100 price point.

Might want to look into a hand crafted rod built by Jimmy Boss.

Look in your area for a custom builder and have one built on a mudhole glass blank. You'll thank me later.

If you can find an original Powell Max 703 CB Glass or an Endurance 724 CB Glass Composite either will work fine.

Rainshadow REVC66M is perfect for 1/4oz cranks. They also have a MH version that handles mid size cranks perfect.

Dobyns 704cb best I have used. Tried the glass version, liked the graphite better.

I'd recommend a MHX CB843-Blend over their glass blanks. It's perfect for what you want, Bill.

I was just going to post this EXACT statement. I like the 704 graphite best for smaller cranks. The 705 glass is a beast for larger ones!!

I had a rod builder make me one on this blank. It's a bit whippie but love the feel with the baits.

    There are MANY out there!

my favorite under $200 models are:

BPS CRANKIN STICK 7'0 MH (under $100, and THE BEST under $100 crankin rod you'll EVER find)

St Croix 7'0MHM in a Premier or Avid

    Dobyns Fury 705CB
