What’s the plastic piece on the transom?

So I picked up my 1980 and there’s a white plastic blade looking thing on the transom on the starboard side. does anyone know what this is? It’s not the transducer, I know what that is.

I had something like that on an older boat I owned and it was rigged to the speedometer to tell how fast you were going.

Pitot tube? If so, it should have a nipple on the top. Tubing runs from the nipple to the speedo. The ones that I've had were spring-loaded/collapsible, when you run over something. https://imgur.com/zVt35LZ

People still use those??? Hope they didn't drill holes in the transom to mount it.

A GPS speedometer would be a great option.

It is called a “pitot tube” as the water moves past the opening on this tube it changes the pressure within the tube, this change in pressure is measured and the boat speed is calculated..
this is the reason why people do not trust boat speedometers, GPS is much more accurate..
