Yes, mine is high and I've taken Lisinopril for the last few years. First, 20 mg a day and after my PVC's in early Dec., I'm now taking 30 mg a day. I work out for an hour 2-3 times a week and start and end with 15 minutes of cardio. Limiting your caffeine and salt intake will help. There's a salt substitute called No Salt that I've been using for a while...can't tell the difference. But, as you know, processed and canned foods have lots of salt in them.

There's the 'white coat syndrome ' where your BP goes up in the office. Get a monitor and keep a log at home. You'll be surprised. It's also a more accurate record of what's really going on.

Fish oil pills are supposed to bring it down, doctor wanted me to take them along with my bp medicine. She said I might burp up fish taste, I said, “no thanks on taking them then”.

For your age, all your numbers are too high, IMO.

Agreed....your numbers are the same as mine on average, but mine is even lower about 1 out of 3 times I take it, and I am 1.5x your age, and I'd bet at least 1.5x your weight too.......................

for the home monitor, I highly recommend an Omron BP786N (~70 bucks). Make sure you get the XL cuff, and a case for it.

It's easy to use, and it can be set up to take the BP 3x with set intervals, and then it averages it out and shwos yu that average, but it still records all 3 levels for history.
It is also bluetooth capable, so you can keep all your readings on your phone for showing your doc, vice bringing in a written chart.
I also just recently found out, that while the monitor itself doesn't show you the app shows when an irregular heartbeat is detected, which can help with early diagnosis of other problems.
It comes with a 120v plug in, but I use batteries so I can take it wherever I am at the time.

Doc had me taking it 2x a day for a few months, then once it showed a steady level over that time, I'm now down to taking it every 2 weeks or so.

I feel better, where I didn't realize it was affecting me (mostly mild headaches). I've also been told to back down my sodium intake. My cholesterol numbers were fine. I have a 3 month checkup next month, we'll see what the doc says then.
I second the lisinopril. Helped me alot

You have any issues with dry mouth. I started taking it a few months ago and now I get a slight dry cough and my mouth is always dry. They list the cough as a common side effect but dry mouth is supposed to be fairly uncommon.

Switch up, try another drug. It's definitely the lisinopril.

It hasn't with me - but I am on the minimum dosage - 5mg daily. I hydrate a lot though - lots of water- I swore off softdrinks years ago. I bet I had less than a dozen sodas all of last year.

Let me throw this out. I was on Lisinopril several years. At first, it made me feel horrible. I was going back in 2 weeks to see if it helped anyway, so I talked to him about it. The pill was one with a diuretic in it. That was what had me feeling bad. I was fine on it for several years and then one day I broke out in hives out of the blue. Turns out, My body decided that it wanted to become allergic or something. Anyway, changed to something else and it's all good for now.

I'm 56, and always knew my BP was a little high for the last several years, 145'ish/90'ish. Heart rate is always between 56-62. I finally went to the doctors for the first time in my life, mainly to schedule a colonoscopy. I ended up getting on a low dosage of Lisinopril (20mg a day) that brought my BP to around 128'ish/72-75'ish. Guess I'll stay on it.

If any of you ever watched the series "The Biggest Loser", you would realize what a healthier diet, along with exercise will do! I've seen them lose 200 lbs, and get off of every medication that they were on when starting out. AMAZING!

This is something I do no something about ! GET YOU a GOOD DOCTOR AND listen to him and change your habits and diet if you want to take your grandkids fishing.

Do it now because at 60 it may be too late. If your dr tells you those #'ers are good now, get another Dr.

Do you have high BP? If so, how do you keep it under control.

I find it weird though that up until like 1995, 140/90 was ideal normal. Then 120/80, now 115/75. Now many medicines are prescribed at 130/80-85. Years ago it was your age plus 100 for the top number. Lots of people back then smoked cigarettes and laughed at exercise. Yet many today are in their 80s and 90+. It’s amazing how many medicines we are now prescribed with hopefully long lasting benefits of longevity.

Getting medical advice from BBC. Most of the people on this forum can't figure out what truck to buy, boat to buy, what fishing line to use, rod and reel to use. Asking for advice on a condition that can and does cause blindness, heart and kidney failure, and early death, is just BRILLIANT. GO TO A DOCTOR.

Exactly, the only reason mine is considered high is they dropped the numbers...............
