Tobacco is what made Wilson but all the old wharehouses are gone or converted to apartments or other things now. Very few around now. Wilson was declared and known for "the world's greatest tobacco market" for many, many years. Wilson has been pumping up the Whirligig thing now for several years and using it to promote people to come downtown to eat and shop. As we all know, malls and strip malls have made past history out of "downtown" businesses. Whirligigs?? Not me.

A Native American Chief settled his tribe on the Kaw river with his new bride. The Chief was a good walker and was always going somewhere afoot. After several months he had worn a hole in his moccasins. Several of the tribe decided that since they were going to stay there they wanted the Chief to name the place. The Chief was at a loss for a name but at the council fire one evening as he was being pressured by the braves for a name he glanced down at his moccasins and muttered Toe Peeka, the braves broke out in cheer and the rest is history.

I guess the best i can come up is Super Bowl winner QB Jeff Hostetler. A friend of mine John Unger was one of the miners rescued in the Quecreek Mine Rescue. Other than that we have two traffic lights, farms and a new deep mine last year.
